Charlie Fitzsimmons knows the value of hard work and determination. There were 1200 fighters in the Ringside World Championships in Kansas City , Missouri representing 19 different countries competing in the biggest boxing tournament in the world. Most of these experienced fighters have over 100 or more fights. Having previously competed in only 8 bouts himself, Charlie tested his skills against some of the best amateur boxers in the world, and came back to Salamanca KnockoutFactory with a World Championship belt

Charlie’s first fight was with Alberto Gomez. Mr Gomez had previously fought in the Olympic trials and he had a record of 117-34. Mr Fitzsimmons won a unanimous 3 rd decision. The next night Charlie fought William Moss, a National Title contender, and ended up dropping a close 3 rd decisions to him. After this match, thinking he was done,  The Bradford, P.A. boxer was approached by a team from the Bronx that had a crafty fighter that know one wanted to box. Charlie’s fortunes turned as he was put into another bracket accepting a fight, and was given a second chance at a world amateur title in the heavyweight division.

Charlie almost wasn't allowed to compete because his nose wasn't in exactly in good position as it was bleeding throughout the week, but got into the ring with Adriel Lopez and had one of his best matches ever. After giving him the 2nd standing 8 count, Charlie’s corner was shouting to stay on him and knowing that the title was on the line he went right after him, throwing a barrage of punches until the ref stopped it with about a minute left. He won 2 out of his 3 fights but won the most important one, the amateur Heavyweight Championship.

Charlie stated “As a Christian, I have to thank God first. I prayed with my Pastor before the bouts and He protected me. It was awesome to bring a title back to the Knockout Factory. This is a lifelong dream for me. Coming from a small town, I just never expected this! I want to use this experience to show my kids that anything is possible.” KnockoutFactory coaches Mike Tome and Jimmy Wilder had plenty of praise for Mr. Fitzsimmons. Club President Tome said “Charlie is a testament to hard work and discipline. You will never see him blaming others, making excuses or taking the easy way out. The man trains like a demon. He works odd hours, so sometimes he’s in the gym training BY HIMSELF at 3-4am . He never complains, is always looking to better himself, and is an all around great guy to everyone in the gym. There’s no better example of a polished gentleman” Head coach Jim Wilder added “Nobody deserves the chance at this more than Charlie. He works harder than anyone in the gym, always has time to teach new boxers and his attitude & work ethic are an example to everyone.” While Mr. Fitzsimmons still plans on boxing, he plans on shifting gears after this win and trying his hand in Cagefighting next. “I like to test myself, we have a new cage and a great Mixed Martial Arts team at the KnockoutFactory, and I might take a few of those fights to see if I’ve got what it takes.”
